Platform Feeds - Miniature Horse & Pony

PleasureSport & PerformanceMare & FoalSeniorMiniature Horse & Pony
Platform Miniature Horse & Pony Feed

Platform Miniature Horse & Pony is specifically designed to meet the unique needs of miniature horses and ponies, who tend to be more metabolically efficient than large horses but still must meet the nutritional demands imposed by growth, gestation, lactation, breeding and competition. Rich in highly digestible fiber and quality amino acids, this palatable formula is well fortified with vitamins and minerals to meet all the needs of miniature horses and ponies despite their relatively small feed intake.

Directions:

Amount of feed needed will vary with temperament, metabolism, environment, activity level, health status, desired body condition and quality of forage fed.  Animals with “hotter” temperaments or a high level of activity and mares that lactate heavily will need more feed than quieter, more sedentary or overweight animals.

A good quality hay or pasture should be fed with Platform Miniature Horse & Pony Feed.  Hay/forage should comprise at least 50% of the daily diet. Limit Platform Miniature Horse & Pony Feed to no more than 50% of the total daily ration to provide not more than 0.3 ppm added selenium in the total ration.  Plenty of clean, fresh water should be provided at all times.

  • Keep fresh, clean water available at all times except immediately after intense physical activity. Always provide access to salt.
  • Miniature horses and ponies require some roughage in the diet for optimal gut function. Base feeding programs on hay and/or pasture access. When feeding Platform Miniature Horse and Pony Formula as a concentrate, roughage should comprise a minimum of 30 to 40% of the daily diet, or about 0.75 to 1.0% of the animal’s body weight.
  • Use a weight tape to measure your miniature horse’s or pony’s weight and to monitor changes in weight.
  • Use true weight of feed (using a scale), not volume (scoop or container), of hay and concentrate to accurately determine feeding rates for your horse.
  • Make feed changes gradually over a period of at least seven days.
  • Divide daily food intake into at least two meals, more if possible.
  • Store feed and roughage in clean, dry areas protected from rodents. Never feed wet, moldy or insect-infested product.
  • Maintain a regular deworming and vaccination program, have the horse's teeth examined annually and consult your veterinarian periodically.
